Todd Thorn, Tour Leader/Severe Storm Expert from Bozeman, Montana. I will be on all the tours.
I have been fascinated by severe storms and tornadoes since I was just six years old, and as a result, I began studying severe weather at a very early age. Over the years, I read every textbook on the subject and spent many days watching severe storms form over my hometown. My nights were spent watching vivid lightning from my bedroom window as the sound of thunder shook the house. To be a storm chaser, you must be able to read the sky and see the visual clues for severe weather, such as the meaning of distant towering cumulus clouds. All the schooling and onboard information is good, but it takes years to learn how to read the sky for visual clues as to where the next storm will form. I have been chasing severe weather since 1991 and have a background in meteorology. In 2008, we will be operating our 11th year of Storm Chasing Adventure Tours. We have been featured in numerous television documentaries and news programs, and in more than 200 newspaper and magazine articles published around the world. Since I founded Storm Chasing Adventure Tours in 1997, our emphasis has been on good forecasting techniques to intercept severe weather for a successful storm chase on every tour. I look forward to seeing you in Tornado Alley during 2008.
Steve Carey Guide/Driver for tours 3 & 5
This will be my 4th year storm chasing with Storm Chasing Adventure Tours and my 2nd year as a member of the Storm Chasing Adventure Tours team. On previous trips I’ve seen awesome lightning displays, intense thunderstorms, and two tornadoes. I am a professor at the University of Mobile (Alabama) where I teach courses in biology and geology. As a resident of the Gulf Coast, I’ve experienced several hurricanes including Hurricane Ivan whose eye passed over my house. I’ve always been fascinated with severe weather and can’t wait for the chase season to begin. I look forward to meeting you and sharing the experience of a lifetime.
Matt Amesz Guide/Driver for tour 1 & 3 also on tour 2
Hi, I am from Perth Western Australia and 2008 will be
my 3rd year chasing tornadoes with Storm Chasing Adventure tours.
I have had a keen interest in severe weather from a young age and I was
fortunate enough to see my first tornado whilst chasing last year.
Seeing a tornado for the first time was truly an amazing experience, it certainly
got the heart pumping. every day is like an adventure who knows where you will
end up and what you might see.
Regardless if you see a tornado or not its an experience of a lifetime and one
not to be missed. I look forward to travelling with you all in 2008.
Wendi Denning, Guide/Driver Tour 5
I h ave always been scared of death of storms, and what better way to seek out that fear than to travel to tornado alley and witness the most spectacular sights of storm formation. This year will be my 5th year chasing with Todd and my 2nd year as a driver for Storm Chasing Adventure Tours. Each year, I look forward to seeing a part of the country that allows you to sit and watch as supercell storms form over the valley. Some may say your crazy and ask what are you thinking….but where else can you go to witness weather at its most intense….
Kevin Harned, Driver/Guide/Severe Storm Expert for Tour NA
Like Todd, I've been fascinated with the weather since I was a kid. Following my dream since I was in the seventh grade, I have always wanted to learn more about the weather and how it works. I decided then that I wanted to be a meteorologist. A graduate of Purdue University, I have my degree in Synoptic Meteorology and work for the NBC affiliate, WAVE 3, in Louisville, Kentucky. I had the pleasure of documenting a ten-day tour with Todd, including everyone on board, during the 2002 season. Working in television has given me the opportunity to chase tornadoes and hurricanes and to cover floods and winter storms. It's one thing to look at a radar and warn people of what you think is coming their way... but totally different to actually see it with your own eyes. Trying to predict what nature will do and when is very humbling, but I look forward to the challenge on tour TBA during the 2008 season.
Michael Forrester, Driver/Guide/Photographer Tour 2
2008 will be my 6th year chasing with Storm Chasing Adventure Tours. As a freelance videographer, I'll be videotaping the severe weather we encounter for distribution to television networks, including The Weather Channel. I'll also work as a guide and provide you tips on shooting great video during your storm chasing adventure.
If you've never chased, you're in for a treat. New technology allows Todd to analyze data like never before and put us in the best location for viewing nature's most spectacular sights. 2004 was a great year and resulted in my video being seen by millions on The Weather Channel, ABC, FOX and National Geographic. I'm looking forward to a great 2008!
Dan MacKenzie, Driver/Guide Tour 1
Hi I’m Dan Mackenzie from the UK. I’ve been chasing with Todd since 1999 and every year just gets better and better! Like most of the other drivers on Storm Chasing Tours, I am a bit of a severe weather nut, and have been fascinated by extremes of weather from a very young age. My first ever tornado chase was with Todd and Storm Chasing Tours way back in 1999, that year we just happened to be chasing on May 3rd through Oklahoma, wow, what an experience! F5’s dropping left right and centre, I’ll never forget it both for the amazing weather and for the tragic loss of life. After the event I felt that we had helped someway into warning those in the tornadoes path to take cover, I felt that there was more to chasing than just the chase. That event was also captured on tape by the BBC who had come out with Storm Chasing Tours to produce a week long documentary to be aired prime time across the UK. As it happened, because of the events on May 3rd, the BBC decided to do a live transmission from Oklahoma along side the documentary, which was a first for the BBC! I look forward to seeing all members of Tour 1 and I can guarantee you’ll have have the best chance of seeing some wild weather on Storm Chase Tours!
Peter Wharton, Driver/Guide, Tours 2 & 3 & 4 & 5
This will be my 6th year chasing with Todd. My 2003 tours saw some spectacular storms, along with a great supercell in South Dakota that we chased for over six hours! This has only whetted my appetite for seeing more. This may well become my annual trek to the world's hotspot for severe weather. I'm a business consultant living in New Zealand, and have been keenly interested in the weather since I was a boy growing up in Canada. I'm looking forward to driving with Todd this year, and meeting people who share my passion for the weather. With years of amateur interest in the mechanisms that fuel these storms, I'm looking forward to helping each of you experience the excitement of the chase, and to gain more understanding of Mother Nature's annual drama on the plains. Cheers, Peter
John Larew, Driver/Guide, Tours 1 & 2 & 3
Hi, I am from North Carolina and this will be my 7th year chasing with Storm Chasing Adventure Tours. I have been in emergency services most of my life, and have enjoyed severe weather as a hobby. Last year, I witnessed the F-3 in Oklahoma City and it was one of the most amazing events to I have ever seen. I am also a photographer and have never been disappointed by the storms we chase. Come join us in 2008 for another great chase.
Jock Mcginty, Driver/Guide, Tours NA
Hi, I’ve been chasing severe weather with Todd since 2004. In that time I’ve learned that if there is any weather out there then Todd will get you right in the path of it. 2004 was an amazing season and we saw 21 tornadoes, including 3 on the ground at once and a one-in-a-thousand clockwise rotation. Simply amazing! I’ve always had an interest in natural history and the physical forces that shape our universe, from severe weather to astronomy to volcanoes and earthquakes (my other real favourite)!! Living
and working in Indonesia I get my fair share of those events, but nothing matches the feeling of being under a 50 mile wide, rotating supercell in the great plains of America. Whether 2008 will be your first chase season or you’re a veteran returning for your annual fix, I look forward to seeing you in The Alley and sharing some awesome weather experiences.
Greg Dupont, Driver, Tour 5
Greetings, I'm a college grad who decided to not get a "real" job after college. I moved out west, from Maine, in search of self and adventure. Ive been living in Bozeman and bartending/snowboarding in Big Sky for 2 years now. I love playing most sports for the adrenaline and competition. When the chance to see tornadoes came up I had to jump at the opportunity. Chasing some of the most incredible storms mother nature can cook up is probably the only sport I have yet to experience. I'm looking forward to this exciting adventure!
Bill Schintler Severe Weather Tour Guide Tours NA
My life long fascination is severe weather. I have lived in Iowa my entire life and we get our share of violent weather here. I have been chasing it for over 20 years and 2008 will be my eighth year of leading chases with Storm Chasing Adventure Tours. 2007 was an active season for severe weather in the Plains, and the most memorable event was an evening of violent weather on May 4, which produced numerous tornadoes in Oklahoma and Kansas. While this was one of several exciting and action-filled chases of the year, the resulting devastation and loss of life in Greensburg, Kansas; which was hit by an EF5 tornado; served to temper my enthusiasm for severe weather. The great majority of the violent weather that we will witness while chasing will take place in uninhabited areas and in open country, but the Greensburg event was a sobering reminder of the human toll that results when these storms hit populated areas. This year, I look forward to many successful and exciting chases, and I enjoy meeting folks who share my interest in severe weather and storm chasing. Drawing from both a formal background in meteorology and from decades of experience with reading the sky, I will practice successful forecasting techniques to ensure that we consistently intercept severe weather and tornadoes.
Ryan Hoke, Guide for Tours 4 & 5
I'll be the first to admit that I'm obsessed with weather. Everyday presents an opportunity to experience spectacular shows put on by our atmosphere, even if it's just a passing cloud. This interest inspired me to create a weather website for the Louisville, KY area. My site, www.ryanweather.org, features weekly forecast videos, severe weather coverage, and a daily weather blog. The site has been featured on Louisville's WAVE 3 TV and receives visits from all over the world.
My severe weather coverage features live streaming video on my website. Using state of the art weather radar software for radar analysis, I can point out dangerous tornado hook echoes, damaging hail indicators, and provide vital storm information for viewers.
This upcoming season I will be a guide on tours 4 and 5. With a live mobile weather data connection and GPS equipment, I'll be able to tell you our exact location and the locations of storms around us, along with their characteristics. We're going to have a blast this 2008 season!
Sean Feeney, Driver/Guide Tour 4

Mark Bubloski, Drive/Guide Tour 4
Hello Everyone...Mark Bubloski here from Naples, Fl. Weather is something that has always interested me. While my friends were watching Cartoons I was watching the Weather Channel. Since moving to Florida in 2003, I have had the opportunity to have gone through Hurricane Charlie (2004) and Wilma (2005). Im ready to check a few more weather phenomena off my checklist. This will be my 2nd year chasing with Todd. The storm chasing experience is even more rewarding when you can share it with people with the same respect and interest. Buckle Up and Lets hit the road!
Mark Butterfield, Driver/Guide for Tour 5
Hi, I was born and raised in Kansas and I have also lived in Missouri and Oklahoma. Living all my life in Tornado Alley, I am familiar with the territory and very familiar with severe weather. I have worked in the fire service for over 25 years and have spent untold hours storm spotting for emergency agencies and warning the public. But being the impatient type, I got tired of waiting for the storms to come to me and this will be my second year chasing them with Todd and Storm Chasing Adventure Tours.
I can tell you that there is nothing more sickening than witnessing a violent tornado wreck havoc and devastation through a populated metropolitan area. Conversely, there is nothing more awe inspiring or majestic than watching a tornado dance through the open great plains of Kansas. I have seen them both and hope to share the latter with you. I can assure you that Todd is amazing at putting us in the right place at the right time to get the best seat in the house for nature’s most spectacular event.Your comfort, enjoyment, experiencing everything America’s Heartland has to offer and fulfillment of your desire to see nature’s most spectacular sights “up close and personal” are important to me. But as your driver, your safety is my utmost concern. I have taught emergency driving courses to fire fighters, ambulance drivers and law enforcement officers. So while Todd and you are watching the sky, I’ll be watching the road to keep us all safe and bring us back next year.
.Please Remember.......
We will NOT be confined to the region around , Amarillo, Texas or Denver, Colorado.
We will do what it takes to get you to the best area we think is most likely to experience tornado activity on any given day. Even with the high cost of gasoline, this will not deter us from going to the best spot for tornado formation across Tornado Alley and throughout the Midwest.
You are paying good money to see severe supercells and tornadoes, and we will do whatever it takes to make it happen.
These storm chasing tours are not for people who cannot handle spending many hours traveling on the road in SUV's. If you are one of them, please don't come with us. To be in the right place at the right time, extensive driving time is required. Of course, the ride is very comfortable! We travel an average of 2,500 miles on "6-Day" tours . Of course, all this driving gives you the grand tour of rural America and Tornado Alley. We expect to cover Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, eastern Colorado, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, eastern Montana, eastern Wyoming, and other mid-America states during the season.
